How is SCDI different than a regular dental assisting vocational school?
First, you must understand that a dental assisting education can be acquired in two different ways:
- You can receive your state required training hours through a dental assisting vocational school
- You can receive the training hours by working under the supervision of a California licensed dentist.
Either path allows you to become a dental assistant. SCDI offers a short term solution to what is normally a long term program. Our dental assistant programs are designed to quickly educate our students so that they can immediately get a job in the dental field, where they can complete their remaining training under the supervision of a dentist. The balance of the required training hours are spent while the student is actually working and getting paid! That's how SCDI is different. Get your education fast, while you keep your existing job, and after graduating, start working in your new job right away!

Why would I want to attend SCDI?
Our intensive 10 week program will prepare you for immediate work in the dental field. Our facilities are not in a traditional school setting, but in an actual working dental office! Our teaching staff is very knowledgeable and able to give you the hands on training you will need in your new job. By attending our short term program, you will not have to adjust your current job, family obligations and financial requirements that you would have to for a year long vocational school. Our classes are only one day per week, for 10 weeks. We provide you with the education, hands-on experience, professionalism, resume building skills and confidence you will need to get the dental assisting job you've always wanted.

What if I work full time?
This is not a problem. Because our program is geared toward the working student, we offer our dental assisting course on Saturdays. You can still keep your full time job and be on your way to the career of your dreams at the same time.

What happens when I am done with this 10 weeks course?
You will now be ready to apply the skills you have learned at South Coast Dental Institute. We help you get ready for your job search with resume building and interview skills, and knowledge about what dentists and office managers are looking for in an interview. We want you to be able to present yourself in a professional, confident manner.
We are not a job-placement institute, however, we can help you find a job when local dentists notify us that they are looking for fresh, educated individuals to add to their team.

What are we doing all day during these classes?
Our classes will be divided into both theory and hands on practice. Since our classroom setting is in a dental office, our students will have ample opportunities to get the feel of being a dental assistant. We will not just set our book in front of you and expect you to read all day. The required reading material should be done during the week so that you will be ready to test, discuss and practice what you have learned.

When are the classes held?
Currently, the dental assisting classes are held one day per week, 8 hours per day for 10 consecutive weeks. Mid-week evening classes may be added in the future if they are needed. Class attendance is mandatory because of the short term, intense training that we offer. Each day will be packed with theory as well as hands-on activities. Our website is constantly updated with class schedules and start dates. So if one class is full, remember, our next class is just around the corner!
